ABOUT
Hi, my name is Martha and Hell Wench is my business. I love getting my hands dirty in clay and creating! I like to think my clay incarnations give a tactile comfort, have a personality, with a sprinkle of attitude and sass…’a little gritty but pretty.’ In that vein, my vessels are never entirely symmetrical, evoking the plastic nature of clay in its raw form, but also the movement associated with the pot's intended use. Ideally reflecting all its beauty and awkwardly embraceable imperfections; imperfections that celebrate the handmade object. My pottery is inspired by many things, including nature and wildlife l come into contact with on my travels… most importantly my style is slow design, simple and beautiful one of a kind organic shaped and decorated ceramics, and occasional other handmade creations. The majority of my pieces are fully functional and while perfect for handwashing are perfectly at home in a microwave or dishwasher.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work emphasises what it means to be a little wild; a transformation born out of my up bringing and allowing the ‘gritty but pretty’ moniker to come alive.
