Jan, assisted by his wife Krystyna, combines his technical skills with his artistic creativity to develop and perfect his own style: glass that is simple, elegant and contemporary. Each piece is an original design, created free-hand without a mold. All pieces are signed by Jan Benda and carefully inspected to ensure the highest quality of workmanship.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Jan Benda, a native of the Czech Republic, graduated from the Technical Glassblowing Institute in 1969 with a journeyman diploma. Driven by passion and gifted with a rare talent, Jan worked for the next fifteen years with the best glass masters in the Czech Republic, eventually achieving the status of Master Glassblower. With his family, Jan immigrated to Canada in 1983. Four years later he reached his dream by opening his own glassblowing studio on the Sunshine Coast
