Fibre artistSharon was born in North Vancouver BC and studied Textile Design at Capilano College as well as Graphic Design at the Vancouver School of Art. She spent years trying various mediums of expression. Textile arts, photgraphy, silver smithing as well as pottery kept guiding her closer to the natural things that she loves. As a long time collector of baskets, Sharon began experimenting in basketry. Each basket is constructed of dried pine needles as well as an assortment of other items such as etched copper tubing, lake rush or bone beads. The needles are coiled together and stitched with waxed linen thread. The basket is then covered with a thin layer of beeswax and then molded into its final sculptural form.
