I was raised in Vancouver where, as a child, my father encouraged me to draw and paint, sometimes sketching outdoors on weekends with me when he could take time from his architecture projects. He inspired in me a love for dedicated creative work which if approached honestly, from one’s own vision, (hopefully combined with some talent!) could result in real artistic accomplishment and would indeed be valuable to society.

I left Mexico and went to New York where I lived for many years. Initially, I hand-painted found and made objects. This eventually led to making a line of mixed media jewellery, which I sold at wholesale “fashion” and retail craft shows. What most attracted me were the booths of independent art jewellers. I decided I wanted to try metalwork, so I enrolled in classes at The Craft Students League in NYC. Tamiko Kawata Ferguson was my primary teacher and influence there, and I was superbly happy and honoured to be able to learn from her.

Seven years ago, I returned to Vancouver. My work is on consignment in several galleries including Circle Craft Co-op Gallery on Granville Island and I market my work at retail craft shows in Canada and the U.S. I have taken classes at Patina Designs in Vancouver and have attended a workshop at Peters Valley Craft Center in Layton, New Jersey with Harold O’Connor.
