CHROMA: Jewellery by Monique Mousseau

Opening Reception, Thurs Aug 7 from 6 – 8 pm

Vancouver artist Monique Mousseau’s jewellery is created from precious metals, semi-precious stones, vitreous enamel from Japan, and gemstones that are combined with a variety of enamelling and cloisonné techniques. The pieces in this exhibit are all about colour and the form used to contain the colour. The surface designs are organized by the colour relationships, texture and dimension of the enamels and gemstones. The forms are functional and the narrative is provided by the viewer or the wearer.

Her work has been exhibited nationally including “Sixteen Pieces Inspired by Four Elements” at the Zilberschmuck Art-Jewellery Gallery (Toronto, 2007). Her jewellery was also part of “Format to Facet: Body Ornament West” at The Triangle Gallery (Calgary, 2004) and the Alberta Crafts Council (Edmonton, 2005).

Mousseau was born in McBride, British Columbia in 1949 and graduated with a Fine Arts Certificate from the Kootenay School of Art in Nelson, BC. She further continued her education enrolling in the Goldsmithing Apprenticeship Program at Vancouver Community College where she advanced her enamelling skills which were further enhanced through self-instruction. Monique currently works from her studio in downtown Vancouver where she designs, makes and markets high quality, one of a kind or limited production “wearable art.”
