Circle Craft Student Scholarship Recipients

Circle Craft’s February 2009 exhibit will feature the works of Circle Craft’s 2008 student scholarship recipients. The exhibit will run February 6 thru March 3, 2009 at the Circle Craft Shop & Gallery on Granville Island.

Featured will be: Margaret Matsuyama, Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design, Ceramics Program; Corrina Suveges, Capilano College, Textile Arts Program; Erick James, Kootenay School of the Arts, Metal Program; and, Marek Norman, Vancouver Community College, Jewellery Program.

In 2003, Circle Craft Co-Operative initiated an external scholarship award program to support new and upcoming craftspeople. This program is part of Circle Craft’s commitment to community outreach programming, working in partnership with four BC institutions; Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Ceramics; Capilano College, Textile Arts Program; Vancouver Community College, Jewellery Program; and, the Kootenay School of the Arts, Wood/Metal Program.

Graduating students from these programs are invited to complete an application to be considered for the award. A selection committee from each department work in co-operation with Circle Craft to select each year’s recipients. Selection is based on outstanding achievement and an intent to pursue their art form professionally or through furthering their studies.
