My interest and love of working with wood began in 1985. I love the honesty and surprises the material presents. These attributes have kept my interest all these years.
The material from my work comes from building sites and old logged areas etc. I select the pieces in the large log or burl form so that I have complete creative latitude. The turned pieces are all done green from start to finish, turned once to finished thickness, allowed to dry naturally, then hand sanded. During the drying process the piece will change shape slightly and acquire a texture of its own.
Most pieces take only 1-2 weeks to dry. Other pieces, boxes, ornaments, etc. are done using air-dried material selected for grain and colour. Each piece is signed with my name and the wood species. All pieces are finished with a combination of mineral oil and beeswax.
I want my work to have a natural (organic) look and feel, to do justice to the material.
